Area measures the size of a surface, calculated by multiplying length by width. The square meter is the SI unit; square feet and acres are common in the US. One acre equals 43,560 square feet or about 4,047 square meters. The hectare (10,000 m²) is the metric equivalent used in land measurement worldwide. Area conversions always multiply the length factor by itself — for example, 1 square foot = 0.0929 m², not 0.3048 m².
